Also known as Alarplasty, Nose trim is a surgical procedure that aims to narrow the span of nostrils and alar base. People with wide opening and flared nostrils are candidate for this surgery. The surgery is done by cutting out a wedge-shaped piece from the outer base of each of your nostrils. Once the surgery is finished, your nose will be covered with splint or bandage. The surgery is performed in the clinic under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis, and usually takes an hour to finish.
Dr.Alozo will evaluate your general health status and any pre-existing health conditions or risk factors, as well as discuss the likely outcomes of the procedure, risks and complications and the type of anesthesia that will be used, including all aspects of the surgery from preparation to post-operative care and follow up and recovery, etc.
Moreover, prior to surgery, you will be advised to take certain medications or adjust your current medications and stop smoking few days before the surgery, as smoking can increase bleeding. You will be asked to avoid taking aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs, and prescribe special instructions like what to do the night before the surgery.
Post surgery
Normally, you will feel some pain and discomfort at the nose area as well as experience nose puffiness during the first days after the operation but it can be alleviated by the medications prescribed by Dr. Alonzo, which you will take for 7 days to avoid any further complication. You will also be instructed to sleep with the head higher than the chest to help reduce swelling and any discomfort. It can also help you recover fast. After 2 or 3 days, you will feel no pain but swelling in the nose and eyelid area will persist, although most of our patients report that they experience a little bruising only in the dorsum of the nose. You should not be alarmed if there is some bleeding from the incision site, as this is normal and often resolve within 2 days. Swelling and bruising around the eyes will start to disappear within a week and will completely subside for about 2 weeks. You will be required to see Dr. Alonzo on the third day for the removal of the bandage/splint, then on the 7th and 10th day for the removal of stitches.
Post surgery recovery
You can go back to work after 1 or 2 weeks, but avoid strenuous activities that can increase pressure to the face, which can prolong swelling and bruising for the next 2 to 3 weeks. After the removal of the bandage and stitches, the patient must take care of her/his nose not to be injured until it is completely healed. The frames of glasses should not be allowed to rest on the bridge of the nose for three weeks. Using contact lenses can be resumed within two to three days after the surgery.
Additional cosmetic surgery procedures that can enhance good results together with Alarplasty are Rhinoplasty or noselift, eyelid creation, dimple construction, cleft chin, dimple construction, botox injection, chin augmentation or other facial surgery procedures.
Comment by 2012 romelyn pacino on April 17, 2012 at 11:33pm Nipple reduction is used to either reshape nipples that are too long or to reduce the areola. This outpatient procedure involves making small incisions to remove the excess and results in smaller, more natural and youthful appearing nipples.
Comment by 2012 romelyn pacino on April 17, 2012 at 11:27pm nipple reduction
Usually when we think of enhancing the breasts we think about breast lifts, reductions and enlargments. However, for some women, their concerns are much more localized: they are unhappy with their nipples. Whether they are too big or too puffy, these women are always excited to hear how simple it is to enhance just the nipple. And more beautiful nipples mean more beautiful breasts.
What many women think of as "the nipple" is actually made of two parts: the nipple and the areola. The nipple is the projected part and the areola is the dark pigmented skin that surrounds the nipple. This page discusses options to reduce enlarged nipples. If you are interested in solutions for enlarged areolas, read more.
If you're uncertain about how to describe the look you'd like to have, visit our photo gallery and select your perfect nipple. Then go Inside Online andrequest an appointment to discuss your options with Dr. Stevens or Dr. Spring.
Large nipples - either in circumference or in length - can affect a woman's appearance both nude and in clothing. Sometimes nipples are enlarged simply due to genetics or develop after childbirth and breastfeeding. Nipple reduction is also done in conjunction with breast augmentation, breast reduction, and breast lift surgery. Reducing a nipple's size can be done right in the doctor's office, as an out-patient. The surgery usually takes less than one hour and the patient can return to their normal activities within a day or two. Healing is fast and scarring (if any) is rarely visible. Sensitivity is usually maintained and the visual results are beautiful.
First, the doctor will determine which part of the nipple needs to be reduced. Depending on the shape of the nipple this could be a reduction in length, a reduction in width, or both. This is often performed under a local anesthesia.
Length reduction
Nipples that are too long either droop down or project too far out can be shortened. Usually, to create a shorter nipple length, the tip of the nipple will be removed and sutured for closure. Sometimes the skin along the neck of the nipple will be removed. In those circumstances, the tip of the nipple is then sutured to the bottom of the nipple, creating a shorted nipple length.
Width reduction
If the nipple is too wide (or thick), but not too long, a pie-shaped wedge will be removed from the undersurface of the nipple. This allows the nipple to be "taken in" and the circumference reduced. Dissolving sutures are used.
Length and Width reduction
For some people the nipple may be too wide and too long. In those cases, both procedures are performed.
Recovery time will depend on the patient, but most patients can resume their normal activity within a day or two. Patients can shower the day after surgery. Dissolving sutures are used.
This treatment does not usually affect the ability to breastfeed. Some women are unable to breastfeed even without surgery. For more information, please see the La Leche Leagueweb site.
Plan to come in and talk with Dr. Stevens or Dr. Spring soon. To request a consultation, go Inside Online. The Los Angeles plastic surgeons offer free appointments at select times.
Comment by 2012 romelyn pacino on March 23, 2012 at 11:33pm The eggs of these parasites are introduced into the human system through the medium of food or water, especially undercooked meat.
Roundworms may result from dirty fingers and food.
Hookworms enter the human body through the skin from infected water.
The tapeworms are transmitted into the body through undercooked flesh foods or foods contaminated by dogs.
The real cause of intestinal worms, however, is wrong feeding. The eggs of these worms, taken into the human body through food and water can breed in the intestines only if they find there a suitable medium for their propagation.
This medium is an intestinal tract clogged with morbid matter and systemic refuse due to wrong feeding habits.
Worms and other intestinal parasites which infest human beings are found in all countries of the world. However, they are more common in tropical and subtropical areas and are widely prevalent during the rainy season. Children are more often infested with intestinal worms than adults.
Parasites are living organisms that live off the host (a living organism) and utilize the host's nutrients completely, harming it in due process. Parasites enter the human body through many channels: air, water and the food we eat. Once they get in, not only do thrive on the food we eat, but also start eating us from within, to accelerate their multiplication. They can thrive anywhere in the body but are mostly found in the gastro-intestinal tract. There are over a thousand types of parasites that can live in the human body. Some are extremely microscopic while others are big enough for the human eye to see. Intestinal parasites in humans can cause serious health conditions by making the body weak and undernourished, increasing its vulnerability to viral, fungal, bacteria, chemical and metal poisoning as well as various diseases.
Comment by 2012 romelyn pacino on March 23, 2012 at 11:30pm Pinworms and thread worms may bring on intense itching in the area around the rectum.
Round-worms may give rise to inflammation of the intestine and lungs, nausea, vomiting, loss of weight, fever, nervousness, and irritability.
Threadworms may cause intense itching in the area around the rectum. They may also cause periodic bouts of diarrhoea alternating with constipation, loss of weight, cough, and fever.
The presence of giardia may result in pain in the calves and weakness in the legs.
Hookworms may give rise to anaemia and nutritional disorders. The eggs of these parasites are introduced into the human system through the medium of food or water.
There are several types of intestinal worms.
The most common of these are
roundworms,
pinworms,
threadworms,
hookworms,
tapeworms
giardia.
Pinworms
Pin worms are small white contagious worms which are ¼th of an inch in length.
They are quite prevalent in children but adults can also suffer from the disease. An adult pinworm lives in the upper part of the colon and survives by feeding intestinal contents. To lay eggs, a mature female worm migrates from the intestine to the anal region.
These microscopic eggs cause intense itching around the rectum region so that many eggs are picked up under the nails by the fingers during scratching. Once the eggs reach under the fingernail they can be easily transferred back to the stomach through mouth where they hatch and again migrate to the rectum.
Pinworm is a common cause for anal itching among children, some might not feel any symptoms but for others loss of appetite, insomnia, bed wetting, weight loss, irritability, appendicitis, nausea and vomiting is common.
If these worms migrate to the female vagina then it can cause inflammation and intense itching in the genital tract. Besides the medication prescribed by your specialist for pinworm treatment simple pinworm natural cures can be followed at home to deal with the parasite.
Detection – Help your doctor to diagnose pinworms by providing him correct information. While you child is sleeping at night you can look at the anal region by spreading the cheeks of the buttocks. If you see white colored approximately ¼ inch long worm – often they look like a piece of cotton then pick it up with a pair of tweezers and store in a small bottle.
Press a cellophane tape against the skin of the anal opening when your child complains of anal itch; the tape will pick up the eggs. Press this tape on a glass slide and give it to your specialist to study under the microscope.
Comment by 2012 romelyn pacino on March 18, 2012 at 5:09pm Combantrin-1 products are different from the other Combantrin products in that they use mebendazole as the active ingredient instead of pyrantel embonate. They offer a one tablet, once only, treatment for pinworms / threadworms. Combantrin-1 with mebendazole can be used by children over 2 years of age.
Mebendazole is an anthelmintic, meaning an agent designed to destroy parasitic intestinal worms, that works by interfering with the proteins in either the worm's intestine or absorptive cells. This inhibits the threadworms’ ability to absorb glucose (sugars) which depletes them of the energy that they need to survive. As a result the threadworm dies within several days.
COMBANTRIN-1 CHOCOLATE SQUARES WITH MEBENDAZOLE
Combantrin-1 chocolate squares each contain 100mg of mebendazole. Combantrin-1 chocolate squares are available in packs of 4 chocolate squares, enough to treat 4 people for threadworm.
Side effects: Side effects with Combantrin-1 chocolate squares with mebendazole are unusual but can include diarrhoea or abdominal pain. These are often only short term side effects and may be related to the size of the threadworm infestation but see your doctor if symptoms persist.
Other infections: Roundworm, whipworm and hookworm infections can be treated with Combantrin-1 chocolate squares but you should seek medical advice before beginning treatment if you suspect that you have any of these worm infections because they are difficult to diagnose.
Caution: You should not use Combantrin-1 chocolate squares if you are pregnant. Do not give Combantrin-1 chocolate squares to children under two years of age. If you are unsure about either of these restrictions then consult your doctor. You should not take Combantrin-1 if you are allergic to, or have a hypersensitivity to, any of its ingredients. Caution is also required if you suffer from acute liver disease or are taking the anti-ulcer medication Cimetidine. In either of these cases, long-term treatment with mebendazole can lead to an excessive plasma concentration in the blood when the liver does not breakdown the mebendazole sufficiently. Caution should also be taken if you using the anticonvulsant Carbamazepine.
Dosage: Take only one Combantrin-1 chocolate square, regardless of your body weight, with or without food, to kill threadworm in adults and children over 2 years of age.
Combantrin-1 chocolate squares contain no gluten, artificial colours or artificial flavours, to the equivalent to less than 0.3% W/W. The chocolate squares do contain lactose, sucrose. The appearance of the chocolate squares may alter slightly with storage but this does not affect the quality or effectiveness of the product.
Other Combantrin products include: Combantrin Chocolate Squares, Combantrin Suspension, and Combantrin Tablets.

Combantrin is Australia’s leading worm treatment and treats pinworms / threadwormsin a single dose. These anti-worm products will only treat the adult worms currently residing in the intestines. They will not treat the eggs or immature worms. This is why it is important to treat the whole family at the same time and to check roughly two weeks after the initial dose in case a second dose of treatment is required. This is because existing threadworm eggs in your environment can cause a reinfection and treatment will not prevent your children from contracting threadworm again if they ingest more eggs.

Comment by 2012 romelyn pacino on March 18, 2012 at 4:50pm The Trichinella roundworm causes the terrible disease known as Trichinosis (trihk-ih-NOH-sihs). The adult worms, which are hard to see without a microscope, live and mate in the intestines of the host. Females carrying fertilized eggs burrow into the intestinal wall, where each releases up to 1500 larvae. These larvae travel through the blood stream, from which they eventually exit through small blood vessels, and then burrow into organs and tissues. This causes terrible pain for the host. The larvae then form cysts in the host's muscle tissues and become inactive.
The only way these encysted worms can complete their life cycle is if infected muscle tissue is eaten. This means that hosts for Trichinella must be carnivorous- animals that do not eat infected meat do not get Trichinosis. Two very common hosts for Trichinella are rats and pigs. (Rats eat any meat they can find, and may even eat each other. Pigs regularly catch and eat rats and other small animals.) Humans get Trichinosis almost exclusively by eating raw or incompletely cooked pork.
Filarial Worms
Filarial worms, which are found primarily in tropical regions of Asia, are threadlike worms that live in the blood and lymph vessels of birds and mammals such as humans. They are transmitted from one primary host to another through biting insects, especially mosquitoes.
In severe infections, large numbers of filarial worms may block the passage of fluids within the lymph vessels. This causes elephantiasis, a condition in which an affected part of the body swells enormously. Fortunately, extreme cases of elephantiasis are now rare.
Eye Worms
Eye worms are closely related to the filarial worms that cause elephantiasis. They are found in Africa and affect both humans and baboons. Eye worms live in and burrow through the tissues just below the skin of their host. In their travels, the worms occasionally move across the surface of the eye- hence the name eye worm.

Comment by 2012 romelyn pacino on March 18, 2012 at 4:49pm Ascaris is a parasitic roundworm that lives in humans. Species that are closely related to Ascaris affect horses, cattle, pigs, chickens, dogs, cats, and many other animals. Ascaris and its relatives, which are collectively known as ascarids, have life cycles that are similiar to one another. One of the reasons puppies are wormed while they are young is to rid them of the ascarid that affects dogs.
Adult Ascarid worms live in the intestines, where they produce many eggs that leave the host's body in the feces. If food or water contaminated with these feces is eaten by another host, the eggs hatch in the small intestine of the new host. The young worms burrow into the walls of the intestines and enter surrounding blood vessels. Carried around in the blood, the tiny worms end up in the lungs. Here they break out into the air passages and climb up into the throat, where they are swallowed. Carried back into the intestines, they mature and the cycle repeats itself.
