As the first major film event of the year, it is a magnet for international industry professionals (producers, distributors, buyers and sales agents) and is seen as a barometer for the upcoming year in film. At this year's market, sales agent Corsan World Sales announced via a press release that they are screening footage to buyers of the upcoming 30 million dollar production SINGULARITY currently in production. Let us hope we hear soon about new distribution deals

Corsan World Sales Press Release

Following the successful international launch at the Sundance Film Festival and on the eve of the film’s European premiere at this year’s Berlinale, Corsan World Sales today confirmed Icon Film Distribution will distribute the highly sought after, multi-million dollar production THE DEVIL’S DOUBLE in the UK. The UK deal was brokered by Corsan World Sales president Pascal Borno, Icon UK Group Managing Director (Distribution) Ian Dawson and Icon Head of UK Acquisitions Toby Hill.

The Lee Tamahori (ONCE WERE WARRIORS, DIE ANOTHER DAY) directed film starring Dominic Cooper (CAPTAIN AMERICA:THE FIRST AVENGER, AN EDUCATION) and Ludivine Sagnier (SWIMMING POOL, UN SECRET) is a dynamic and chilling story of one man’s struggle in a world of gangsters, violence, power and seduction based on Latif Yahia’s book of the same name. One of the hot properties of this year’s Sundance, where it was picked up for US theatrical distribution by Lionsgate, THE DEVIL’S DOUBLE is screening as a Panorama Special in Berlin on February 11th. Actors Dominic Cooper, Ludivine Sagnier and Latif Yahia himself will be in town to present the film.

Further previously announced deals include CCV for Scandinavia, Lusomundo for Portugal, Eagle Films for the Middle East, Media Film International for Thailand, Parkit for Indonesia and JRD Films for India & Pakistan. The Corsan team are preparing for a busy EFM where they will complete sales on THE DEVIL’S DOUBLE and screen footage to buyers of the new 30 million dollar production SINGULARITY currently in production, directed by Academy Award® winner Roland Joffé (THE MISSION, THE KILLING FIELDS) and starring Josh Hartnett (PEARL HARBOR, BLACK HAWK DOWN), Olga Kurylenko (QUANTUM OF SOLACE, HITMAN) and Bipasha Basu (DHOOM 2, OM SHANTI OM). Corsan are also launching a new project from John McTiernan, SHRAPNEL, which is confirmed to commence principal photography this summer with a high profile casting announcement expected imminently.

On making the announcement, Borno commented “We are very excited to be working with the Icon team on this project. We have the utmost confidence THE DEVIL’S DOUBLE will be a hit with international audiences and there is no team better skilled or equipped to bring the film to audiences in the UK.”

Corsan CEO Paul Breuls added “Dominic’s electrifying performance galvanised the UK distributors at Sundance and although there were several bidders we decided Icon were the most committed in making this film a success. We know the film is safe hands with the Icon team.”

Pearl Harbor star Josh Hartnett will reportedly be shooting in Bhopal for 30-days for acclaimed director Roland Joffe’s (City Of Joy [1992]) new film, Singularity. The film’s leading lady is the dusky Bipasha Basu, who with her captivating looks has proved her acting prowess in films like Corporate (2006), Omkara (2006) and Sob Choritro Kalponik (2009) (an off beat Bengali film).

According to sources, Josh Hartnett plays a British officer in 1780′s India who will be performing some deadly stunts along with love interest Bipasha who plays a Maratha warrior. As is the custom with every Hollywood star India visit, Josh will visit the Taj Mahal with director Roland Joffé after the shoot. However, Bipahsa will be unable to join her crew due to the slated release of Dum Maro Dum.

It seems that Bipasha is making up for her absence by buying miniature gifts for the entire team of Singularity. A disappointed Bipasha said, “I was planning a big party for them, but the cast leaves soon after the shoot. This time I can’t host a bash for them, but I will surely do so closer to the release of the film in India”.

Currently, Josh Hartnett is getting accustomed to the Madhya Pradesh temperature. The shoot begins on April 1st, 2011. Singularity is being produced by Paul Breuls’ Corsan NV and Dale G. Bradley’s Limelight International Media Entertainment. The cast includes Scream actress Neve Campbell, Bond girl and Olga Kurylenko. The film also stars a host of Bollywood actors like Abhay Deol, Milind Gunaji, and Atul Kulkarni.

source: Chakpac
I COME WITH THE RAIN: U.K. TRAILERtag:joshhartnett.com,2011-03-29:2530982:BlogPost:771332011-03-29T22:30:00.000ZOlivierhttps://joshhartnett.com/profile/Olivier
Thanks to a chance encounter, two former high school classmates have one night to experience what could've been if Casper (Sam Rosen) never enlisted in the fight overseas (Zoe Lister Jones plays the other half of this unexpected romance). Initially agreeing to keep their emotions from overcomplicating their rendezvous, nothing about their night turns out has they planned it. The stars, skyscrapers and an uncertain future loom large over their journey through the unsympathetic, urban landscape. Jones and Rosen's natural chemistry calls to mind another lovelorn pair in the Linklater festival favorite, Before The Sunrise. With a sense of ease and clarity that's usually reserved for those years removed from the period in question, Stuck Between Stations perfectly captures the here and now for an entire generation.

Stuck Between Stations is an authentic snapshot of a generational zeitgeist and tells a coming-of-age story for modern-day middle America about former high school classmates reunited by chance during a chaotic party-filled evening. A decade after they graduated from high school and went their separate ways, Casper, a soldier haunted by the horrors of war, and Rebecca, a whip-smart graduate student with a shaky future, reunite by chance and get to know each other over the course of an accidental tour of the little-known underbelly of Minneapolis. The evening's odyssey includes a bar fight, a house party, a punk-rock circus, a spontaneous burglary, a home Casper did not know he had, and a cast of strange characters, unexpected allies and disappointing friends.

Angels Crest, directed by Gaby Dellal, written by Catherine Trieschmann. (UK, Canada) — World Premiere. In the working-class Rocky Mountain town of Angels Crest, young father Ethan (Thomas Dekker) is doing his best to raise his three-year-old son Nate. He has no choice — Nate’s mother (Lynn Collins) is an alcoholic. But one snowy day Ethan’s momentary lapse in judgment results in tragedy, catapulting the town’s tight-knit community into strange new directions as they try to decide where the blame lies. With Jeremy Piven, Elizabeth McGovern, Mira Sorvino, and Kate Walsh.

Artificial Paradises (Paraísos Artificiales), directed by Yulene Olaizola, written by Yulene Olaizola and Fernando del Razo. (Mexico) — North American Premiere. This beautifully rendered atmospheric story captures a young woman addicted to heroin trying to get clean at a rundown resort on the Mexican Gulf Coast. There she meets a local character and the two begin a unique rapport. First-time narrative filmmaker Yulene Olaizola subverts the conventional addict story and imbues her main characters with a complexity and honesty that inspires this delicate and resonant journey of two old souls. In Spanish with English subtitles.
The presentation marks the first time a major motion picture was created exclusively for Web distribution.

"Girl Walks Into a Bar" will premiere in the YouTube Screening Room, a platform designed to showcase top films from around the world.

"With 'Girl Walks Into a Bar,' the cast and crew came together to create something different – a high quality, really fun character-driven film that we could present to audiences for free using a new distribution model," said Gutierrez. "We found great partners in Lexus and YouTube to support the film while providing us with the stage to draw the largest audience possible."

"Girl Walks Into a Bar" marks Lexus' first entry into film presentation, however, it is not the automaker's first initiative in the entertainment space. In addition to sponsoring and supporting events in the arts and entertainment arena, Lexus created LStudio.com, a broadband channel that features original content, in 2008.

"The movie escapes the confines of traditional film production and is a bold undertaking that is set to transform the film industry," said Dave Nordstrom, vice president of marketing, Lexus. "It seems fitting to support this initiative as we launch our most unconfined vehicle yet—the CT 200h hybrid —in a space that we know will reach an unconventional, sophisticated audience."

"Girl Walks Into A Bar" is a feature-length film that follows a series of characters in interlocking stories taking place in ten different bars during the course of one evening in Los Angeles. By turns funny and heartbreaking, this sharp-witted comedy is written and directed by Sebastian Gutierrez ("Women in Trouble," "Elektra Luxx") and is produced by Steve Bing ("The Polar Express," "Shine A Light"), Richard Rosenblatt and Gutierrez.

Zachary Quinto stars as a dentist who teams up with a feisty would-be assassin (Carla Gugino) to put the final touches on the plan to kill his wife. Once he makes a play for the assassin's payment, he unknowingly sets off a chain of events that fuels a cross-town journey through the many lounges, bars, strip clubs and the occasional nudist ping pong club scattered across Los Angeles. Along the way, we are introduced to a series of idiosyncratic characters, from pickpocket and gangsters (Aaron Tveit, Danny DeVito) to exotic dancers (Emmanuelle Chriqui, Alexis Bledel), from ex-cons (Robert Forster) to cops (Josh Hartnett, Gil Bellows), with the odd hatcheck girl (Rosario Dawson) and bartender (Amber Valletta) thrown in for good measure.
Synopsis
Two years after killing Hasford a serial murderer in the line of duty, Kline (Josh Hartnett) now works as a private detective, but he is still haunted by the ghosts of his past. A powerful pharmaceutical conglomerate boss hires Kline to find his only son Shitao who has mysteriously disappeared in the Philippines where he had been helping in an orphanage. Kline follows the trail left by the ethereal Shitao to the jungles of Mindanao, and then to the urban jungle of Hong Kong, where he enlists the help of Meng Zi, an old police officer friend. The search leads Kline to cross paths with local organized crime syndicate boss Su Dongpo, who is making trouble for the underworld, triggered by an overriding passion for his drug-addicted girlfriend Lili. Caught in the crossfire between the Hong Kong police and Su Dongpo's mafia drug ring which is also hunting for Shitao, Kline found himself alone, in this unknown city, when Meng Zi is victim of an assassination attempt and hospitalised. Leaving behind his 5-stars hotel for a shabby murder scene apartment in order to get inside the mind of Shitao, Kline gradually loses himself in the terrifying memories of Hasford, whose speciality was dissecting his victims' limbs while they were still alive, then reassembling them into installation sculptures. After a few weeks immersed in his haunted memories, torn between good and evil, Kline is about to leave Hong Kong when he finds Shitao, who has become a mysterious vagrant with healing powers.

The South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival is thrilled to announce the features lineup for this year’s Festival, March 11 – 19, 2011 in Austin, Texas. The 2011 lineup continues the SXSW tradition of tapping into the cultural zeitgeist, highlighting emerging talent and breakthrough performances and supporting first-time filmmakers. The Midnighters and SXFantastic feature sections, along with the short film program, will be announced next week.

“This is the most exciting moment for us. After a fantastic festival of discovery in 2010, we can finally unveil the line up for this year’s event,” says Film Conference and Festival Producer Janet Pierson. “SXSW prides itself on taking chances, sifting for films that are the seedlings of the next generation of must-see artists. This year’s line up is full of emerging voices and filmmakers who transcended the resources they had on hand, often with an alchemist’s touch.”

Over the course of nine days, 130 features will screen at SXSW 2011. The program consists of 60 World Premieres, 12 North American Premieres and 16 U.S. Premieres. These films were selected from a record 1,792 feature-length film submissions composed of 1,323 U.S. and 469 international feature-length films. SXSW saw a 23% increase in its overall submissions over 2010, with a record number of nearly 4,900 total.

The festival’s main competition categories once again find eight Narrative Features and eight Documentary Features, vying for their respective Grand Jury Prizes. New for 2011, films in competition will also be eligible for screenplay, editing, cinematography, music and acting awards.

"I felt like I needed to come back here for closure," Hartnett said. "For 10 years, I've been waking up in the middle of the night, panicked from the same nightmare in which I experience Pearl Harbor all over again."
"Everyone knows Pearl Harbor was a terrible, terrible thing," Hartnett added. "But they can't truly fathom how awful it was unless they were actually there."

Hartnett, who was just 22 years old at the time of the atrocity, described the experience as a never-ending stretch of misery that seemed like something from a bad movie.

Explaining that at the time he was merely doing what was asked of him by those in charge, Hartnett said he has always been tormented by the unspeakable acts he witnessed in Pearl Harbor. Wracked with guilt, he has questioned the errors in judgment that allowed the three-hour tragedy to occur in the first place.

"Of course it affected the whole country, but I have to live with it every day of my life," said Hartnett, surveying the place where a cruel and delusional egomaniac directed the disgraceful attack on American culture. "The truth is, we were never prepared for an atrocity of this magnitude, and I guess it all happened so quickly that we never had a chance. Even now, all these years later, it makes me sick just thinking about it."

"I talk to my buddy Ben about it sometimes—he understands," Hartnett added. "We were in that shit together."

Hartnett told reporters he regretted the way he acted during Pearl Harbor and knew that he could never take back some of the "horrible, just awful" things he said and did. He also expressed anger and frustration when recalling the senseless plot that ruined the lives of so many promising young men and women.
The visit to Pearl Harbor dredged up a number of painful memories for Hartnett, who vividly recalled the overblown attack, the excessive explosions, and the doomed faces of those around him.

"All those scared and confused voices, all that yelling—it's still fresh in my mind," Hartnett said. "It was just shot after shot and like eight million things getting blown up at once. It was appalling. And so loud. It seemed to go on for an eternity."

Looking out at the quiet and peaceful water, Hartnett told reporters that he considered himself lucky to have survived Pearl Harbor reasonably intact, a feeling he said is shared by the others who somehow made it out of the disaster in one piece.

"We all want to put it behind us and move on," Hartnett added. "You never hear Cuba Gooding Jr., Jon Voight, or Alec Baldwin mention Pearl Harbor. They just freeze up and get real quiet when you bring it up."

Hartnett then fell to his knees, started sobbing, and screamed "Why?" after the sight of a hangar reminded him of the calculated and brutal inhumanity of Pearl Harbor's insipid love triangle.

source: the Onion

Abhay Deol doesn’t like talking about a movie while shooting for it. He believes in letting viewers watch it and discover what the mystery is all about. It takes some coaxing to get him to open up about his Hollywood film, Singularity, having just returned from the first schedule in Queensland, Australia.

Deol insists that he accepted Singularity to get an opportunity to work with director Rolland Joffe, whose films, The Killing Fields (1984) and The Mission (’86), are among his favourites. “I saw The Mission 15 years ago and I remember it to this day. It wasn’t just visually beautiful but philosophical and thought-provoking too. It’s the stuff I dream to make but it takes a bit of fighting to make films like these. I hope I get to work with Rolland again,” he says.

The epic romance, based on a story by Ajey Jhankar, is set against the backdrop of the first Anglo-Maratha war. It spans two eras and two continents, and co-stars Josh Hartnett, Neve Campbell, Olga Kurylenko, Chris Egan and Bipasha Basu. Hartnett plays the dual roles of James Stewart, a British officer who reluctantly takes on the Marathas in the 1780s, and Jay Fennel, a modern-day marine archeologist. He’s an actor whom Deol admires because he has resolutely stayed away from convention and made independent, original films. “After Pearl Harbour (2001), Josh could have gone mainstream, but he stuck to the kind of cinema he believes in,” he points out.

As far as Hindi films go, he’s been busy with Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. A situational comedy on love and friendship, he describes it as a ‘dramedy’, an adventure comedy with twists and a bit of drama. “The real twist was Zoya (director Zoya Akhtar). I knew she was talented but after working with her, I’ve realised that she’s a genius. She’s among my top three directors today. She understands subtext and nuances better than most,” he says. “I’ve never had so much fun making a film.”

Another favourite is Vishal Bhardwaj, Deol admits, who he has met several times. “Dreams was one among the many films offered to me. But Saif (Ali Khan) was already on board, so we talked about other ideas,” he shrugs. He hasn’t discussed doing a film with Anurag Kashyap after Dev D (2009) though. “I’m not one to push someone to work with me. He will, if he wants to, and I will, if I like it,” Deol says. There are no projects with Imtiaz Ali either, after their debut film Socha Na Tha (2005).

"Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is my 10th film and Zoya, my 10th director. Six of these made their debuts with me. And UTV is the only production house I’ve done two films with,” he says. Dibakar Banerjee was one of the few directors who started discussing another film with him, even before they’d completed Oye Lucky Lucky Oye (2008). “I liked his confidence in me, in himself and his style of filmmaking. So I said yes without even reading the scripts. I will always stand by Dibakar, we will team up again,” he promises.

Meanwhile, Yamla Pagla Deewana is gearing up for a New Year release. “I love the promos,” he enthuses. “The film is not just songs and laughs. It has a clear-cut plot with my taya (uncle Dharmendra) and brothers (Sunny and Bobby) playing zany characters. I hope the film will be even better.”

It’s films all the way for Atul Kulkarni —be it his infrequent Kannada outings or his first international project, Singularity.

Undoubtedly, he’s on a high. Be it Atul Kulkarni’s first international outing in Roland Joffé’s Singularity, with the likes of Josh Hartnett, Abhay Deol and Bipasha Basu, or being nominated for the Best Actor Award at the 4th Asia Pacific Screen Awards, 2010 for his Marathi film, Natarang.

“The going has been good and I have no complaints. I’m in Australia shooting for 'Singularity' and it promises to be quite an experience,” says the two time National Award-winning actor, adding, “Also, the Asia Pacific Screen Award nomination is quite an honour, considering the other nominations are from world over — China, Russia, Israel and Australia. But eventually, awards are like accessories — they don’t dominate my existence or performances.”

In fact, his performance in his last Kannada film, Yaksssha, was lauded by both critics and the audience. “I was quite impressed with the fact that an underworld goon was being presented in a classy manner when there were chances of it going over-the-top. I also dubbed for the film myself — a fact made simpler because I’m from Belgaum,” he informs. But Yaksssha is special for yet another reason. “This is the first time I acted with Nana Patekar. It’s quite ironic that after working for 10 years in Bollywood, it was a Kannada film that got two Marathi actors working in Hindi films together.”

Atul’s next release, Allah Ke Banday, sees him in a small but pivotal role. “I’ve always taken decisions from my heart and the size of the role never matters. Every film that I accept is like taking a chance — one’s always working on a speculation,” he explains. But does that explain the conscious effort to keep his films very different? “There have been times when the same directors have offered me contrasting roles. And to be able to say no also plays an important part in this strive to be different,” he clarifies, adding, “It’s not easy but there comes a point when the number of films one has said no to also matter.”

In spite of being acknowledged as a versatile actor, Atul insists, “Actors like me still need to compete with stars. In the last few years though, the demarcations have blurred.”
Graphic NYC was formed in early 2009 by photographer Seth Kushner and writer Christopher Irving to document the evolution of the comic book and graphic novel through the experiences of New York City's creators. The two combine Seth’s pictures with Christopher’s words to create the synergestic New Comics Journalism, painting portraits of the cartoonists that New York has to offer. Through the course of their journey, they are documenting the masters of the print comic, all the way through to the pioneers of the burgeoning webcomic.
Irving and Kushner had the unique opportunity to interview Frank Miller at its studio and talk with him, among many things, about Sin City 2...

Miller, after years of trying his hand at Hollywood, had it come to him through another artist living by his own terms: indy film maker and jack-of-all-trades Robert Rodriguez, whose first film 'El Mariachi' was self-funded through money earned as a pharmaceutical lab rat.

“I met Robert Rodriguez in a Hell’s Kitchen bar. For one thing, he was the only guy in Hell’s Kitchen wearing a cowboy hat who was straight,” Frank gives with a sly grin. “He showed me what he had in mind, and I went ‘This is good.’

“He had single pages and had taken [pictures of] girlfriends and fellow actors, but he caught the look of Sin City. I didn’t think it could be done. I didn’t know digital then. He taught me digital, and now I know it well.”

Rodriguez’s “audition” clip for a Sin City movie was an adaptation of Frank’s three-page story “The Customer is Always Right,” starring Josh Hartnett. Shooting them against green screen, Rodriguez amped up the contrast and created backgrounds digitally, recreating Frank’s atmospheric implied line world loyally. It didn’t take long for Miller to give his blessing, and for the two to team up as co-directors on the film adaptation.

Sin City came out April 1, 2005, with a motley cast—boasting Bruce Willis, Clive Owen, Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke, the late and great Brittany Murphy, Rosario Dawson, and Benicio del Toro—starring in a handful of the Sin City stories brought to celluloid life. It succeeded in the one area no other comic book adaptation had ever really tried before: the loyal translation. Sin City the film showed us Miller’s absurdist Noir tendencies in motion, while also making the creator-owned comic book a household name. It also gave Miller the last laugh, placing him in the director’s chair on his own terms.

“We’re planning on it early next year,” Frank says of Sin City 2. “We’re getting both of us happy with things, and we’ve both gotten a bit feistier,” he jokes.

“Pre-production will be early next year. Pre-production with Rodriguez takes about ten days. The guy is a lightning bolt. We’ll cast the movie across the later months of this year, and a lot of it will cast itself, since a lot of people want to be back.”

The heart of this new anthology? A Dame to Kill For, the origin of bad-ass Dwight, (played by Clive Owen in the first film) serves as the crux of the movie, with other shorter stories around it. Dwight’s a tortured man, refusing to repeat his hard and violent past by “letting loose” even one more time. When he lets an old flame walk right back into his life and manipulate him with almost fatal consequences, Dwight finds the monster within the only thing that can save him in his dark, twisted, crooked, and violent world.

From twisted tales of the mind, ghosts of unforgivable pasts, and stories about the effect of fear on the state of one’s mind, this year’s Dubai International Film Festival is features a new segment that will thrill lovers of horror and spine-tingling films.

The fesitval’s Midnight Mayhem programme features will run every day from December 16 to 18 at Mall of the Emirates, with screenings including an international and Middle East premiere starting at 11.59pm.

“For the first time, DIFF is introducing a new genre to its programming. The selection of horror films and the special timings in Midnight Mayhem is sure to appeal to UAE lovers of suspense, mystery and thrillers. The films, drawn from across the world, also offer the opportunity to see how filmmakers from different parts of the world approach this hugely popular genre,” said Sheila Whitaker, Director of DIFF’s International Programming.

Marking its international premiere on December 17 is Nick Simon’s “Removal”, which narrates the story of Cole Hindin, who is plagued by horrific hallucinations having witnessed a murder-suicide. An overworked and over-medicated floor cleaning service employee faced with the daunting task of single-handedly servicing a sprawling mansion, Cole loses the last string of reality he could hang on to. The film stars Kelly Brook and Emma Caulfield - both of whom will be attending DIFF – as well as Billy Burke, Mark Kelly and Oz Perkins.

Guy Moshe’s “BUNRAKU”¸ starring Josh Hartnett, Woody Harrelson, and Demi Moore, makes its Middle East premiere at DIFF on December 17, 2010. The martial arts-live action/animation hybrid is a wild, futuristic tale of obsessive revenge, set in a dazzlingly-rendered future world ruled by the sword and combines Western and samurai, Japanese puppet theatre and killer clowns.

The Scandinavian twisted tale “Isolerad” (Corridor) by Johan Storm and Johan Lundborg, also premieres in the Middle East at DIFF on December 18. The dark, psycho-horror begins with a geeky student moving into a new apartment to prep himself for exams at medical college. Little does Frank know that this would be followed by a chain of disturbing, unsettling events, involving Lotte, the strange girl living upstairs.

Tickets can be purchased at DIFF 2010 box offices in Mall of the Emirates, Souk Madinat Jumeirah and the CNN Building in Dubai Media City, or through www.dubaifilmfest.com.

source: Emirates Entertainment

BUNRAKU: RELEASE DATEtag:joshhartnett.com,2010-11-30:2530982:BlogPost:667562010-11-30T23:00:00.000ZOlivierhttps://joshhartnett.com/profile/Olivier
